Pair of Early 20th Century French Carved Fauteuil Tapestry Armchairs
Both chairs that make up this early 20th century pair of French fauteuils are upholstered in a colorful tapestry linen depicting two different traditional figural Aubusson style French provincial scenes, with the backs covered in a mustard-toned plush velvet. Bordered on front on back with large brass nailhead trim, these lovely solid oak-framed chairs feature hand-hammered stippling with heavily carved floral and acanthus details throughout the thick scroll arms, as well as the two turned baluster base stretchers and legs. These well-maintained and elaborately carved chairs are in remarkable condition, ensuring they will be the elegant focal point of any room. Each chair has a seat height of 17 1/2", stands 43 1/2" high, and measures 24" wide and 26" deep.
