Pair 17th Century Gothic carved oak panels, solid Medieval style fleur-de-lis
A sensational pair of 17th Century carved oak panels with an unusual Gothic tracery design in a Medieval manner. Unusually square in shape (most are rectangular), these panels are decorated with fleur-de-lis; sets of three on each side and four facing towards the centre.

The Gothic ribbed design is like a stretched parchemin panel form. The panels are currently'dry-fitted' in oak frames for display, but are simply held in place with some easily removable veneer pins.

They have at some point been removed from a quality piece of furniture where they have been in-situ for hundreds of years. The panel edges, behind the frame rebates, show areas of bare unstained timber. Carved from solid oak slabs, the work is beautifully executed and in superb original condition with good colour and patina.

Beautiful as stand-alone pieces for decoration, they would also be invaluable in the restoration of a piece of furniture or used a donors for the creation of a small two door cupboard. Date: 17th Century in modern oak frames.

Condition: The panels are in good condition for their age. Both have some historic woodworm activity in the rear. The carved buttresses do not extend to the panel edge, they were cut like this for insertion between mullions.

Both panels have a little piece absent from one corner. The oak display frames are modern. Length: 34cm (13 3/8) square. (the panels without the frames are approx 30cm square). Weight: 1553g (3.42 lb) combined with frames.
