This rich and interesting pair of side chairs are diminutive and would generally be reserved for the bedroom. Termed "boudoir" for their petite dimensions, they were originally designed to place comfortably with a dressing table or tuck into the corners of the bedroom - but they also work beautifully as strikepoint seating pieces in any space. Designed in the Louis XVI taste, they are a revival of the original form, probably executed around 1880 with an imaginative eye and competent hand for the carving work: note the unusually well developed carvings along the stiles and the elaborate pierced floral bouquet in the crest. The tapered legs are ring turned with a spiral fluting beneath inset carved floral rosettes in the knees. Both have been reupholstered in a thick woven linen. 27 5/8" H x 21" W x 18 1/4" D x 14 3/8" H to seat. Condition Report: Old remnants of pigment in crevices of carvings; chips to carvings throughout chairs including a few large chips in the apron; new upholstery; sturdy and comfortable. My name is Andrew Silla and my wife and I own and operate Silla, ltd in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
